Srinagar, Mar 10 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed heated debates over two major issues—an "obscene" fashion show in Gulmarg and the killing of civilians in Billawar, Kathua. Congress MLA from Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), while responding to the questions posed by the reporters over the Kathua killings expressed concerns, calling it a ‘serious matter’. He demanded a discussion over the incident. Bhat said he has moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly, seeking clarity on the response if Central governments have taken the J&K government into confidence or not and how the UT government was looking at the tragedy. "People are concerned, murders of innocents have happened. We need to see if the UT government has taken it seriously," he said. The senior Congress leader said his adjournment motion aimed to address the humanitarian aspect of the case and to hold the state government accountable Bhat also opposed and slammed the holding of the fashion show, calling it "obscene" and "inappropriate", particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Responding to the questions over the "semi-nude" fashion show at Gulmarg, the Congress MLA said that Mirwaiz Umar has highlighted the issue and that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed disapproval and sought a report on the incident. "Let us wait for the report and see what action is taken," he said. Bhat said such acts were unacceptable in a civilised society. "There is a system in place that looks into the functioning and execution of events, where they have to uphold ethical and cultural values while allowing such programmes," he said. "They must ensure that culture, civilisation, rules, morality and ethics are respected," the MLA added—(KNO)
